Well, folks…Here’s your first unofficial look at our updated primary bedroom! John and I spent what feels like most of January getting the old wallpaper removed from the section of wall above the chair rail, and today is the debut of our freshly made-over space. I’m not going to dive down deep into the wallpaper removal process in today’s post, though. No, today is all about our new bedding from Muslin Comfort.
You may remember when I first teamed up with this brand last fall. Click here to get the full story, but we had a chance to try out their 100% muslin cotton 365 Blanket, and I shared two different ways to style it as an end-of-the-bed blanket—sleek and straight, and also organically bunched. This month I’m collaborating with Muslin Comfort on a whole slew of exclusive Pinterest content that dives down much deeper into the benefits of their ultra unique bedding. We’re continuing that exploration with today’s blog post, all about how to use Muslin Comfort fabrics to achieve European-inspired bedroom styling.

Now that our bedroom is looking so much more pulled-together with its newly painted walls, I thought I’d focus my energies in this space. I chose the 365 Blanket in “Undyed” (this one’s all natural without any added colorants), their pillow shams and throw in the color “Earthy Gray,” and a bottom sheet in “White.” We love how everything is temperature-regulating, oversized, and made of easy-to-wash 100% cotton. I took inspiration directly from the plants and softer tones in our art when picking colors for our bedding, and I think the final combination really suits the space.
But let’s dive into those tips I promised! I’ve lately been intrigued by the idea of European bed styling, and thought this was the perfect chance to try some of those ideas out in our very American bedroom. The goal was to add a sense of luxury to the space, and I think we achieved that with just a few key swaps from our regular bedding routine.
First of all, we opted to use our new 365 Blanket as our main bedspread. European homes tend to go pretty simple when it comes to the fabrics they sleep with, so using the thinner 365 Blanket as a comforter was an easy way to achieve that look without sacrificing warmth or coziness. The blanket may physically be thinner, but it still regulates your sleep temperature the same way a fluffy duvet and insert would (and this one is a heck of a lot easier to clean!). There’s something about the makeup of the 100% muslin cotton that helps your body stay cool in the warmer months and toasty in the colder ones. When I feel the need for a little more weight around my shoulders, like when I’m reading in bed, I just pull up the Oversized Throw that we keep at the end of the bed.
After doing some research, I found out that, really, the best way to master European bed styling is to simply skip the top sheet. I was a little skeptical about this swap, thinking that I was too dependent on that sheet, but after sleeping in the bed now for weeks, I can wholeheartedly tell you that I don’t miss it one bit. We sleep comfortably on top of our 365 Bottom Sheet every single night, with the 365 Blanket above, and it feels just right. Everything is so soft (even after only one wash so far), and I really enjoy the more minimalist styling of the bed overall now that we decided against the bulk that we used to pack on our mattress with a big comforter and extra layers of unnecessary sheets.
What do you think of this more minimalist bedding look? Don’t forget that you can use my code “CARRIE26” to get a discount off your own Muslin Comfort order—just in time for National Comfy Day on February 20th, too. That 26% discount is the highest a customer can get when shopping at Muslin Comfort. Their sales hardly ever go above that, so make good use of it while you can.
And make sure you’re following along with us over on our shared Pinterest board, which is packed full of inspiration for crafting your own bedroom oasis. I’m going to be posting exclusive content there all month, including tips for incorporating greenery in your bedroom, how to color-block your bedding, and all sorts of other styling ideas to try on and around your bed. Let’s make 2024 our best sleeping year yet, shall we?
