Have you started decorating for Christmas yet? I’m doing little bits here and there to add some festivity to my days, and it has helped so much. My biggest holiday update has been in the living room so far. I decided to go all out on our fireplace mantel this year, and gathered together all of my favorite Christmas accents—pretty faux green garland and wreaths, a strand of pom-poms to add a pop of color, some marble and wood tabletop accents, a candlestick, and (my favorite!) an extra special holiday-themed piece from the framed prints collection at CanvasDiscount.com.

This is our third Christmas in our “new” house, and each year I feel like I’ve been able to make the holiday feel a little more settled and sentimental for us. The first year, we had only lived in the house for about a month and half when Christmas rolled around, so we just pulled it together as best we could from moving boxes. Last year, I was able to take things a little slower and more intentionally, but this year really feels like we’re home for Christmas. I know exactly where all of our special decorations are now, and even the rooms themselves just look and feel more “us” since I’ve been tweaking the designs to suit our long-term lives here. I used mostly things we already have for the look you see pictured here, but that framed print in the center is the one new addition that’s definitely now an annual staple in our Christmas décor.

I considered all sorts of holiday family photos for this focal point art piece, but I ultimately chose something that I thought looked really subtle and sophisticated. It’s a photo I snapped last year of my sister walking her dog, Rory, through the Christmas tree farm that we go to every year the day after Thanksgiving. Looking at the framed photo brings back such fond memories, and also gets me really excited for this year’s Christmas tree farm visit. I love the texture of that crunchy looking grass and the silhouettes of the Christmas trees all lined up in the background, my sister hunched into her jacket against the cold. It makes me smile every time I look at it, and is so quintessentially “Christmas” to me even though it might not scream of that theme to anyone else.

What kind of holiday photo would you print for your mantel? If you’d like to try this look, be sure to use code “DREAMGREEN20” to score a 20% discount off anything from CanvasDiscount.com! That offer is valid now through December 31, so start planning your mantel décor now so you’re all set for the holidays. I’d love to hear all about what you choose to print. You could go more traditional with a straight-on posed family photo, or maybe opt for something a little more reserved like this portrait of my sister. I’m so curious to know what you do. By the way, I ordered ours in the size 20″ x 30″ with a “Vintage Silver” frame to complement the metallics in my other Christmas décor. Let me know what you think in the comments!
