New Revival Rug In The Living Room

The design of our living room is continuing to evolve this year as we get more and more settled into our home almost two years post-move. Today, I’m going to share details about two of the most major recent changes: a new Revival area rug and a new paint color on the walls. You may remember when I painted the fireplace wall in this room a dark blue/green color from Sherwin-Williams called “Homburg Gray.” Well, I ended up loving the drama it added to the space so much that I decided to use the color on all of the walls instead of just one. This color upgrade allowed us to lean into the fact that this room is naturally dark because of our covered front porch and large tree outside the windows, and gave this space an ultra cozy feeling. We love it!

The one thing I didn’t love after painting the room was how dark the old area rug made the room feel. The new saturated blue/green paint color paired with an equally saturated patterned rug just wasn’t working, so I decided to switch things up and opted for a lighter colored rug that brightened the room just the right amount. I ultimately turned to Revival for this swap since I’ve always had such great experiences with their rugs in the past, and ordered the 10′ x 13’1″ version of their Grace Rug in the color “Beige.” Since this is such a high traffic area, I also added the “Plush” rug pad in the same size to my order. This helps the feature rug stay in place better up top, and also adds a little cushion beneath your feet when walking across it. 

I love how the lighter tones of this rug make the room look and feel more expansive and brighter, and the soft clay color in the pattern also nicely complements the green tones in our new all-over paint color. It’s super soft to the touch, has been a dream to vacuum (no bunching!), and the flat pile means that we don’t have to worry about shedding. It’s really simple to spot clean, too. Incidental spills have lifted right out using everyday rug cleaner sprays.

I hesitated to go all in with such a rich color because of how dark this room already is without lights on, but I love that I decided to embrace that characteristic of the space rather than fight it. It’s a little difficult to capture in photos just how enveloping and cozy this room feels now, but trust me—it was the right choice for this dim room. The new paint color paired with the light brightening area rug have made the room look so much bigger in person, and it’s now one of my favorite spots in the house to sneak off to.
