John and I are happily child-free, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t consider ourselves parents. We love our pets to the moon and back, and never hesitate to call them our “kids.” We would do anything for them, which is why it breaks our hearts whenever anything hurts them. Which leads me to a sad announcement. Unfortunately, we got the devastating news last Friday that our sweet little Tonks has cancer and that there’s nothing we can do for her. She’s resting quietly at home now, and we’re doing everything we can to keep her as cozy as possible while also putting on a strong front, but inside John and I are absolutely heartbroken. She’s the happy, energetic little light at the center of our family of five (two humans, two cats, and a rescue pup), and our household will never be the same without her.
Even though we’re going through a really hard time right now as we manage Tonks and her fragile health, I wanted to celebrate her life by sharing a few of her favorites. I took these photos before we knew she was sick, and I scheduled this post before we knew how dire her issues are. I thought about scrapping the story entirely, but, my goodness, she’s so cute in these photos (see the video I produced and posted to Instagram seven weeks ago here), and I know she would want me to keep going and keep sharing—especially if she knew I was going to chat about a couple of her most prized possessions!
Specifically, I’m referring to two pieces of cat furniture that we ordered from our friends at Tuft + Paw. We have their Grove Modern Cat Tower (in size “Small”), and the Stellar Modern Cat Bed. As you probably know, I’m a sucker for well designed pet furniture and products of any kind, so I’ve been a big fan of the collection at Tuft + Paw for years. These two cat beds fit right in with our modern mid-century aesthetic, and they’ve become instant favorite hideaways for our two kitties, too.
They are undeniably what you’d call investment pieces, but I’m sure we’ll adopt more rescue cats on down the line. I’m grateful to know that we can pass these “heirloom” type pieces on to the precious future felines that come into our lives. These beautiful modern pet beds will be with us for decades, I’m sure of it. It makes me smile (through my tears, currently) to imagine all of the rambunctious fur babes that will someday get to enjoy these pet beds as much as our Tonks has. Thanks, Tuft + Paw, for making my little girl comfortable, always.

I’m so sorry to hear about your beautiful, sweet kitty. My heart is broken for you.
Thank you so much for your support. I really appreciate it…
Tonks is a special girl. Sending love and hugs
Thank you!
I’m so sorry to hear about your baby. We just lost ours last month from cancer. She had only just turned 7 and I had raised her from the literal minute she was born. The first time I met my fiance she was stuck on him like velcro — which helped confirm that I was right in my decision with him. 🙂 It’s so hard to lose a baby, all you can do is remember that they were happy and try not to prolong the suffering. My thoughts are with you and your family.
So sorry for your loss, Mariele…Your sweet little honey sounds like one in a million…Thank you for your support, and my thoughts are with you and your family, too!
