Truthfully, I took ages to catch on to the idea of drinking. I didn’t drink in high school, and only picked it up in college when I was well into my Junior year. I’m pretty sure that my “first” drink on my twenty-first birthday was probably something like my twelfth, which is saying something since most 21-year-olds tally their previous drinks in the dozens to hundreds.
I started off with fruity mixed cocktails (basically anything that tasted nothing like booze), and then moved my way into wine only just a couple of years ago. Nowadays, the latter is pretty much all I enjoy when I’m feeling festive, so our bar cabinet truthfully isn’t the most-used piece of furniture that we own, which is why we recently traded our bulky bar cart out for a smaller bar cabinet to house our specialty glasses and John’s small whiskey collection.
Since I have a feeling that we’re probably in the minority and that your bar cart sees more action thanks to entertaining and favorite cocktail recipes, I wanted to curate a small roundup of mixology essentials—everything from ice buckets and tongs, to glasses and serving pieces. Peruse the list below, and feel free to call me out in the comments if you see anything missing.
