Although I do my best to remain objective here on the blog, when I’m in my own element at home, I’m a pretty outspoken person. Suffice it to say that the recent direction our government has taken here in America has been a hot topic at our dinner table—and it has left me feeling a little hallow inside.
That said, despite my strong opinions, I’m not much of an activist. My naturally-introverted personality kept me from participating in any marches and I’m probably not going to join any local chapters or groups, but that doesn’t mean (even for one second!) that I’m not right there rooting alongside the activists that speak to my own personal opinions about the government, equality, and our rights as American citizens.
I know a lot of you—and many of the people I follow on blogs and on social media—are feeling just as awakened as I am, and I’ve clung to a lot of the passionate quotes and sayings that people have picked up and spread around. I’ve always been really inspired by words (not surprising given my profession!), so I wanted to create a tangible spot in our home where I could sound off on the issues and quotes that motivate me everyday. Enter: my new letter board and thrifted letters organizer.
First the organizer, and the main subject of this blog post. I picked up the plastic multi-drawered box from Circa, a favorite secondhand shop in Charlottesville. I actually purchased the organizer with the original intent of using it to store and sort my screws and other hardware, but apparently I didn’t look at the $20 drawered box close enough, because it was only after I got home that I realized it was filled with individual plastic letters.
With letter board brands like Letterfolk trending like crazy lately, I decided that this particularly quote-able day and age was the perfect time to buy into the trend. So, I ordered myself a pretty gray letter board, and my little thrifted organizer was rethought and left to its original purpose.
I’m constantly changing the quotes and sayings that I display on the letter board to suit whatever mood I’m in. Whether it’s an angry one, sad one, contemplative one, or happy, this customizable art piece has become a favorite in my office. It’s amazing how powerful and motivating a simple 15-word saying can be, don’t you think?
Do you have a letter board of your own? What are a few of your favorite quotes and sayings? I’d love to add a new one to my office based on your particular passions, so leave your thoughts below in the comments.
