How To Host A Holiday Game Night Gathering

When it comes to the holidays in our household (and I hope in yours, too!), Christmas comes with copious amounts of family time. Between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, we’re constantly moving from one household to the next, enjoying tons of quality time with our two sets of parents and sisters. Suffice it to say, between the conversation and holiday meals, we spend hours and hours around our respective dining room tables depending on where we end up, and I’m positive that there’s nothing better this time of year than spending it with our very favorite people!

To make our quality time in the dining room this holiday season even more celebratory, I teamed up once again with the fine folks over at DHP Furniture. This time, I worked with the brand to put together a cozy Holiday Game Night Gathering that welcomes an extra toast or two, some friendly competition, and lots of comfortable lounging. Creature Comforts

Of course any good game night starts with comfortable seating. I chose to add a set of Brisbane Dining Chairs in gray to our table, and the difference in comfort level and lounge-ability was pretty astounding. The curvy silhouette hugs your body perfectly, and the cushy criss-crossed upholstery looks and feels amazing. After rounding out the collection with a pair of Mid Century Modern Molded Arm Chairs at either end of the table, we had the perfect perches from which to play games long into the night.

Christmas Characters

No holiday gathering would be complete without a few festive details, so I added a second white Christmas tree to the corner of the room for added ambiant light and character, and I also set the table with a holiday-themed runner and two bottle brush Christmas trees that we already had on hand. Keep in mind that you really only need to add a few holiday-specific decorations to get the point across, so don’t feel the need to spend a lot of time and/or money on these details!

A Series Of Snacks

Make sure to have a few tabletop treats available to pass the time in between turns. A simple tray with cheese, crackers, and fruit might be all you need, but you’ll likely score major bonus points for having things like popcorn and chocolate within easy reach, too. Oh, and don’t forget the wine! Try having a couple of different options available so that you can suit everyone’s varying tastes.

Let The Games Begin!

Since it’s tough to predict what everyone will be in the mood for game-wise, it’s best to have a pile of boxed board games to choose from after everyone sits down to the table. Just pull an arm-load of family favorites (think: Uno, Password, Payday) from storage and stack them right on the table next to the snacks. Then, your guests can vote for the game they’re most in the mood for. Who knows—you might end up working your way through the entire stack before the night is through!
