THIS GIVEAWAY IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED. KEEP SCROLLING TO SEE IF YOU’RE THE WINNER!!
It’s inevitable that, at some point in our lives (or several of them), we wonder out loud if the education we received as children and teenagers was actually useful to us in the real world of adulthood. Well aside from the practical replies to that statement (being able to make change, tell the time, recognize laws, etc.) there’s one other valuable skill that we all learned. Potato stamping!
When I was approached by Modern Masters to try out their line of metallic paint, I eventually decided that it was the perfect time to revert back to my elementary school days and get to stamping. Even John got in on the fun with this project.
Supplies:
- Modern Masters metallic paint (in Olympic Gold ME659 Shade, and Teal ME249 Tint)
- Blank canvas bag
- Potato
- Carving knife
- Plate
First pour 2 to 3 tablespoons of the paint onto your plate. You don’t need a whole lot for this project, as a little goes a long way. Then, using the knife, carve out your shape of choice. I went with a simple triangle silhouette thanks to subliminal messaging à la Pinterest.
Next, depending on the thickness of your canvas bag, you may want to slip a piece of cardboard inside to deter any bleed through. As for the stamping portion of this project, it’s just as you would imagine. Lightly dip the potato stamp into the paint, dab the excess off on a paper towel or the rim of the plate, and then gently press it against the canvas bag.
Just a heads up? Don’t expect perfection on this project! My triangles were all manner of opacity, and some got a bit wonky in my excitement. That said, I still love the finished product. For my pattern, I went with an asymmetrical look – Lots of gold triangles with a couple of teal mixed in for fun.
I’ve loved keeping my DIY painted tote bag on hand for when I run out to the grocery store, or feel like a little “me” time at the coffee shop, sweater and work in tow. A little bit of shimmer, a little bit of color and a modern, homemade design – Just my style.
