I think there’s a large misconception out there that lucite is a singularly contemporary material. I’m the first to admit that I bought into that idea early on myself – Sleek silhouettes, boxy edges and that characteristic invisible finish nod heavily toward a mod way of thinking. Sure, there’s no chance that we would have seen this type of furniture design in the earlier 1900’s (can you imagine a lucite dining room set at Downton Abbey??), but if you’re a stickler for traditional style there IS a lucite piece for you. By holding onto the shape of an antique ballroom chair but building it with lucite, you’ve got a perfect marriage of old and new. For me, though? Give me the contemporary lucite and I’ll be one happy girl…
