Pssst…There’s an important message at the end of this post about my blogging for the next couple of weeks. So be sure to scroll through to get all the deets!
I know I keep saying that the last post will be the laaasssttt follow-up to our wedding, but I PROMISE this is the final one. At least when it comes to the projects we slaved away on before the big day arrived.
As you may remember, we used a collection of thrifted china as our dishes at the reception. My mom and I went out countless times to dig through the mismatched china at our local thrift and estate stores to uncover the hidden gems. I think we ended up with about 75 plates, all of which now reside in mom’s “party closet” to be used beside any future party buffets.
As mentioned initially, I put a mental claim on one favorite out of the stack – It was a simple 50th anniversary plate, but there was something really sentimental about the milestone represented and also in the intricate details of the plate design itself. So after returning from the honeymoon and going through the wedding decorations I planned to keep, I made sure to slip the special plate into the pile for our house.
The spot? You guessed it…
None other than one of my very first projects on this little ole blog: the plate wall. This is definitely one of those projects that is here to stay – The only time I plan to take the collection down is when we move, but that’s not to say I’m opposed to switching things up a bit every now and then.
I was so thrilled to add my favorite wedding dish to the wall and let the memory really shine. No more steak, potatoes and gravy for this darling little piece of dishware.
I actually decided to hang a second piece of wedding china while I was at it, again sticking with the 50th anniversary trend. This one is a little less colorful, but still just as beautiful with it’s shimmering gold text and design.
I think the plates were perfect additions to the wall, and just another way that I am subtly incorporating our wedding day memories into the house.
Speaking of weddings…
I recently checked the calendar and realized that, come Sunday, John and I will officially hit the halfway mark of being newlyweds! I am confident speaking for both of us when I say that our first six months of marriage have been really fantastic. We’ve had a blast settling into a good routine and are excited to see what the future brings.
To celebrate the milestone, I’m dedicating all next week to posts on wedding planning, being newlyweds and even a surprise giveaway to be revealed Friday. You’ll get tons of great resources, whether you’re planning a wedding or simply enjoying life after the honeymoon.
Until then, have a great weekend!
…………………………..
Okay, so about that important blogging message…As you know, I’m starting a new job next week. I can pretty much guarantee that I won’t have as much computer freedom as I did with my last job, so you may see my comment replies and social media interactions slow down around this here blog. I’m going to do my best to utilize my iPhone to keep in touch as much as I can throughout the day, but it’s definitely going to be an adjustment for me and possibly for you as my readers.
I’m also giving myself a little bit of a grace period in terms of content as I settle into the new routine. There will absolutely be NO shortage of inspiration around here – That will never change. But I’m not going to overextend myself with projects around the house until I’m feeling ready. Luckily, I’ve got some great projects already under my belt and ready to share with you over the next month or two, so it’s doubtful that the blog will even miss a beat. But IN CASE you aren’t seeing quite as much DIY coming directly from our house, you’ll know that it’s only temporary until I get my bearings as my career sidesteps itself.
Thanks for understanding!
