Sometimes I kind of feel like life is cheating me out of a lot of creative development. My discoveries are tending to come at a snail’s pace and I am only just now figuring out what I want to do with my life.
I’ve known since I was a teenager that I was the “artsy” type, which led to studio art and art history majors in college. Only problem is that my more concrete self revelations started going off in my head, ohhhh, somewhere around ten months ago (three whole years post graduation). I am beginning to realize that I want to combine my artistic tendencies with a career in writing, and I’m also starting to develop and hone a newfound appreciation for graphic design. If I had known that things like font and transparencies and rule lines would be continuously dancing through my mind, I could have taken real classes in the stuff way back when. Instead, I’m teaching myself and figuring things out as I go. It’s a slow journey, but at least I’m able to focus on some of the prettiest things life can throw at me.
Today, let’s celebrate one of the simplest, most practical and VAST pieces of graphic design: typography. I’ve been developing a little somethin’-somethin’ on the side here the past month or so, which I hope to unveil by year’s end. Until then, take a gander at the inspiration behind my mystery project at hand…
